The World Journal reports on emerging fertility trends
As trend-setting female celebrities in mainland China travel to obtain fertility services in other counties, there has been a notable preference to obtain sperm from a donor who is educated, handsome and Caucasian.
Annie Zhang, Ember Fertility Center’s operation director, notes why women have a preference for good-looking, white, educated sperm donors: More than race and aesthetics are impacting their decision.
Studies have shown that people with distant ethnic ties are less likely to carry common genetic mutations than people of the same ethnic group, so their children are less likely to inherit genetic diseases. Therefore, most single Chinese women who come to the United States for in vitro fertilization will choose sperm from white men and a small number will choose Asian men.
